If there is one trip my sons and I look forward to all year is our annual ski trip. For the last three years, my sons, my mom, and I have traded the New Orleans Mardi Gras festivities for the slopes.
My oldest son’s obsession with all things Utah and skiing is contagious. My youngest is now smitten with the sport, and they both wake up eager to hit the slopes every morning. Ales is also convinced that Utah is the greatest place on earth (hard to argue) and that skiing is what he’s meant to be doing.
It makes me sad that it takes such a monumental effort and a tremendous financial investment to go skiing each year. He would love nothing more than for us to move to Utah (part-time) so he can ski and homeschool every single day. That would be the life!
My mom also comes to Utah with us because there are few things she loves more than skiing. I think her enthusiasm and love for the snow is what first got my oldest son hooked.
As I mentioned last year, I am the skit-butler. I shop, cook, make sure everyone gets to ski school on time, and then return to the condo to work with the most magnificent view of snowy mountains.
What I love about working from the slopes is the fresh air, the clarity that comes to mind, and the general peace I feel there. What’s great, is that since this is our fourth year at the same place, I’ve come to get to know the Canyons Resort and Park City well. So, this year, I also took the opportunity to go to a spin and a barre workout class.
I told my husband that I dream of buying a small condo near the slopes where we can visit more than one week a year, and of course, fulfill our son’s dream of skiing and homeschooling at the same time. He smiles at me, and I remind him that dreams are the beginning of goals…
Where would you want to take your kids every year?
