Simple Banana Waffle Recipe
These banana waffles are thick and fluffy in the center with crispy edges and banana flavor in every bite. The mashed banana gives them a sweeter taste and additional moisture without the need for added fat.
You can enjoy them as is or toss chopped walnuts or chocolate chips into the batter for an extra dose of yum!
Banana Waffle Ingredients
Aside from the super-ripe banana, these waffles are made with the usual pantry and fridge staples. Here’s a run-down of everything you need:
- all-purpose flour: use regular wheat flour or a 1:1 gluten-free all-purpose flour.
- baking powder: helps the batter rise and cook into a fluffy waffle!
- salt: enhances the flavors of banana and vanilla extract.
- sugar: optional but lightly sweetens the waffles.
- egg: gives the waffles structure.
- mashed banana: the main ingredient that adds wonderful banana flavor and that oh-so-soft waffle texture!
- milk: use regular milk or your favorite non-dairy alternative.
- vanilla extract: would be a crime not to add a dash of vanilla to banana waffles.
- melted butter: melted butter adds flavor and beautiful golden color. Make it dairy-free and swap for melted coconut oil or canola oil.
- chopped walnuts: optional, but add a delicious crunch over the top of waffles.
