Flexibility = The New Super Glue

There are some Sunday nights, where after we put the kids to bed, Eric and I look at each other and think: wow, that was a FUN weekend!  This past weekend was one of those.  I often say that I live in “Southern Suburbia.”  It’s true.  When you live an hour north of New Orleans going to the city can seem like a far distance to travel to, but when we do go, we always have fun.  We don’t need an organized event, we just need good weather and all of us together.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when I think “I only have 8-9 weeks to go” before baby #3 gets here.  Mainly, because I haven’t taken anything down from the attic, still need to get cloth diapers, another car, and I have a ton of work to do to get MOMables ready for my 2week absence.  Yikes!

I could spend hours, days, weeks at the office (and I do whenever the kids are not home) trying to get things done.  But sometimes, what I really need is to get out and get some fresh air.  Sunday, we drove down to New Orleans, took family photos for our Christmas cards, enjoyed some Cafe Du Monde (coffee & beignets), and walked along the river with the kids.  Relaxing? Yes.  Needed? Very much.

It’s stepping out, getting out, and doing something out of routine that recharge my batteries.  Yet, here I am on Thursday writing about what we did this past weekend.  I have learned to be more flexible with my own deadlines so I can meet my work ones and not sacrifice time with my kids.  Flexibility is part of being able to keep it together… and that my friends, is some good super glue!

Great post. Hmm, I need to start thinking like you. Flexibility! I am really not that flexible when it comes to my deadlines and such, and that is probably because I am always behind. I need to get a schedule that works so I can take breaks here and there like you do. Great pix, great advice!
