A little over a week ago, I went to Spain with my 3 American sisters. The idea to go to Spain emerged about three months ago when Mary said that she would give up her college trip to Spain and France if I took her instead. Let’s see, it only took me 3.2 seconds to make up my mind and say… “I’ll take you!” Last time I went to Spain was a year ago and I went with both kids to visit my family. A girls trip? totally enticing!
So, here we were… packed and ready to go have a good time for four days in Madrid and another 4-5 at the Mediterranean coast.
After 19 hours of travel time, we arrived at our amazing hotel in Madrid. Thanks to my husband’s cousin Bradley, we were able to stay at the Westin Palace in Madrid (right across from the Ritz and in the same caliber of hotels there).
While I grew up in Madrid and I have family we could have stayed with, staying at a hotel made our trip. We didn’t have to walk far for anything, it’s located near many museums, the center of Madrid, the Prado, El Retiro Park, Sol, Atocha train station… everything. I know my family would have wanted me to stay with them but you can’t beat staying in the city. Our accommodations were first class and it was nice to be able to take a nap when we first arrived and freshen up to eat some taps for lunch.

There were fabulous tapas bars around the corner from the hotel. Elizabeth and I were in love with the fresh smoked salmon tapas, among other things…
This was our tapas for lunch our first day; fresh, delicious, healthy and filling. Que Aproveche!
To be continued….
