How to Blanch Almonds

Learn how to blanch almonds so the skins easily peel off and leave you with almonds you can use to make flour and your favorite recipes.


  • 1 lb raw almonds
  • Water


  1. Preheat the oven to 250F.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the almonds and boil for 30-seconds.
  3. Carefully remove the almonds with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a colander.
  4. Place the colander into the sink, and run cold water over the almonds.
  5. Transfer the almonds to a large clean kitchen towel and pat dry to remove excess moisture.
  6. Use your fingers to separate the skin from the almond. They should easily peel off.
  7. Place the peeled almonds in an even layer onto a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes.
  8. Remove the almonds from the oven and allow them to cool down to room temperature before using.
  9. If not using immediately, store them in a lidded jar or airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
