I would sleep in, play and eat cake. Doesn’t that sound like a plan? It does to me!
Some years, I don’t really feel like celebrating and I tell myself that it’s just another day. This year was the opposite. I’ve been feeling very stressed out working on too many projects and deadlines that are beyond what a sane human being should take on.
This year, I welcomed my birthday. I slept in till 9:30am and did not feel guilty -at all. After that, Eric and I headed to Cafe du Monde with the kids for a “proper birthday breakfast” of delicious cafe au laits and beignets.
You know what makes me very happy? Spending time with the family without having to think about anything related to work. When you are a mompreneur, this is a very difficult thing to do! I’m always trying to squeeze in a few more emails, social shares, articles, posts and recipes right before I have to go get the kids from school. It’s a constant struggle to get my work stuff done before the bell rings! After that, I am mommy and nothing else.
Eric kindly fluffed and decorated the Christmas tree. I say kindly because again…. I cook, I don’t do “decorating.”
Early afternoon we sat around and watched movies. Again, I can’t remember the last time I did that… the two picks this week were The Odd Life of Timothy Green and the re-release of Finding Nemo. Loved both of them.
Ok, back to my birthday. Big party? Heck no. Later that day we went to my in-laws where we had some amazing chili before we headed to New Orleans City Park for more family time. New Orleans has the second largest public par (after central park) and during Christmas the place is all lit up and decorated to the max.
It doesn’t matter how often we go there, the kids love story land.

Perhaps my favorite thing from this weekend was going out to eat lunch and spending an entire afternoon shopping with my mom. It has been a long time since the two of us spent time alone without the kids.
While nothing planned was “super special,” the large amount of family time spent was grandiose. The entire weekend was over the top!
What happened Monday morning? I returned to the office, continued planning and squeezing more things into very little time. This can only mean one thing… that you should stay tuned… because I’ve been working on a couple of amazing recipes you will not want to miss!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! But wait, let’s rewind a second..that’s your mom? She looks awesome! You tell her I said GO GAL!
Back to the bday – I am completely the same, I am so over birthdays lately. But I did have a decent one and did brunch with gals. Sometimes you have to make the day special just for you. I am glad you did what you loved, vegging out with the fam.
