Last week, at the Mom 2.0 Summit, I met some fabulous people. Don’t worry, I will be making more introductions in the near future. I feel it’s also important to mention that no event of this size would be possible without the help of some amazing brands. Some of them have products I use every day, one was very informative on a product I had never heard of (Truvia), and another left me coveting their demo item: Whirlpool.
Yes, you are seeing it right. Your eyes are not lying and that’s me in that picture. I was not paid by Whirlpool to pose, look, admire, open, close, push buttons, ask questions, leave, think about their machines, and come back & repeat. Whirlpool’s Duet machines were really pretty, shinny, welcoming, and smart. They claim to have a 6th sense and to keep clothes newer longer. The Duet washer has a smart sensor that precisely dispenses the amount of detergent each load needs. Smart, right? Less waste = me like.
While I won’t name brands, I will tell you that I hate my front-loading washer. State of the art or not, the Great company of Everything (ahem!) forgot to put a “spin” only option. Who does that? While it claims that it can wash a king size comforter, it doesn’t always remove all the water with the cycle’s incorporated spin. In other words, if I need an extra “spin” it’s a no go. This is a sore subject between E and I because when we moved into our new house 4yrs ago I had to have a front loading washer & dryer -“like in Spain” are the words E says I used.
Here I am: I covet a Duet. I am Grumpy Every time I do laundry (or Mt. Everest as I call it). What is a girl to do? I admit it. I bought something when “it first came out” and now they have the “new and improved.” OH! I didn’t even mention the dryer!! I know by now you are wondering if I’ve lost a marble in my spin cycle, right? I am sure you know my dislike for laundry -specially folding and putting away.
Let’s be honest here: I hate to iron. Ironing is not part of my marriage responsibilities and I only do it when it’s absolutely necessary. My ADD Ability to Deviate & Detour from laundry the task at hand has finally pushed E to do his own laundry (work clothes). Terrible wife, I know. Luckily, I make up for it in other areas. BUT, if I had a Duet dryer… well, it steams the wrinkles off!! I wouldn’t have to hear that I’ve been on Facebook too long, to get off Twitter, or be reminded that wrinkles are happening as we speak!
Maybe, I should mention that I will gladly give away my two perfectly good front loading machines if I could get my hands on a pair of Whirlpool Duets. A busy mom could only dream… and the cranberry colored one? Oh. So. Bright. Jewelry? Overrated.

I was not compensated to write this post -a girl can only wish.- I will tell you that their reps at Mom 2.0 Summit were some of the nicest there; specially Kaitlin.

Laura,
I have to agree I hate my front loading washer! I hate the front rubber boot that collects water and grim, despite how much I wipe it out. I have not figured out how to keep it clean despite my best efforts with white vinegar, and every other cleaning fluid in my cupboard.
So I too would be drooling at that beautiful washer and dryer! I love the idea that you can use the dryer to release wrinkles! No need for ironing! To be honest I don’t iron unless I absolutely have to.
I have been seriously thinking of getting one of those garment steamers I hear they do a better job than traditional ironing?
Laura
I have a hand held steamer too. they work really well. i still dislike my current washer… but what can one do? it’s not like it’s every day I can make big purchases like these! by the time they move on to another place, a newer and better one will be available! -it’s always the case

Love the post! Yes, wasn’t Kaitlin a doll? I tell you what, being in the news business, in addition to being a blogger, I have come across a lot of PR people and the folks I met at Mom 2.0 (kaitlin included) were among the best! Authentic. Love that!
You have marriage “responsibilities”? Wow…lucky E!! : )
I pretty much stopped doing Craig’s laundry when he complained about how I folded his shirts. If I’m feeling extra sweet I’ll do it, but it’s enough keeping up with my stuff and the baby’s. What I love best about Whirlpool’s Duet washer and dryer, aside from the aesthetic appeal, is the hand wash cycle and the dry-clean cycle. Do you know how much money I spend on my TV clothes having them dry-cleaned?? Major pain! I will soon be in the market for a new W & D and am thisclose to considering these.
Laura
Alli, because I like you so much, i am Ok with admiring those from afar…. knowing that you have them is ok. go ahead, get them. I second what you said that the PR people at this conference were aaaammmmaazzziing!!
E complained that his stuff was too wrinkled and he decided to do it himself. he’s got his own hamper and everything. Luckily, the kids don’t complain! 🙂
Kaitlin
You two are too nice! Thank you 🙂
Nichole
Laura, you have to get these! My parents have them and they are wonderful!
Laura
