Have you ever tried cinnamon hot chocolate? If not, you are in for a treat; this delicious combination of cocoa and cinnamon spice tastes like heaven in a mug. It’s incredibly simple and a fantastic idea for holiday gatherings or hot chocolate boards.

Hot Cocoa with Cinnamon
When I feel that first cold breeze that lets us know the holidays are around the corner, I know I can officially welcome the hot cocoa season and make one of my many hot chocolate recipes to enjoy the most delicious drinkable treats.
Since I have a thing for all things cinnamon, I grabbed my classic hot cocoa recipe, tweaked it a bit, and created this creamy cinnamon hot chocolate that you’ll want to sip often. So good!
Ingredients
I make this hot cocoa with unsweetened cocoa powder (we're talking Hershey's cocoa powder; try not to use Dutch-processed cocoa), cinnamon, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor. The liquids we need are hot water, any dairy or non-dairy milk (I recommend using full-fat or oat milk for the best consistency and flavor), and vanilla extract.
How to Make Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
Grab a large saucepan, and let’s make this drinkable treat:
- Combine cocoa powder, cinnamon, sugar, water, and salt in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Add the milk and stir, making sure it doesn't boil (or it will burn). Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla. If you add it too early, it could evaporate.
- Pour yourself a cup and top with whipped cream, a dash of cinnamon, and your favorite hot cocoa toppings.
Recipe Variations
Here are a few ways you can add to the already delicious flavor:
Make it spicy!
For a spicy hot chocolate variation, add ⅛th teaspoon of Cayenne pepper along with the cinnamon. It certainly kicks the flavor up a notch.
Make it sweeter
Caramel sauce blends beautifully with cocoa and cinnamon. Drizzle a tablespoon or two of sauce directly into the saucepan and whisk it in with the rest of the ingredients.
