How To Replace Damaged Lap Siding

This post is sponsored by the DIYZ® app. All opinions written below are mine. Thank you for supporting the brands that encourage my creativity and work.

Home improvement, to say the least, can be stressful. What will I need? How long will this take? Should I do it myself? We all ask ourselves questions like this. After all, renovations require know-how and power tools can be kind of intimidating.

I’m here to tell you that the power has been in you all along. Or, at least in your pocket, because there’s an app for that.

Home Improvement is easier than ever before. With the help of the DIYZ App, we replaced our lap siding all by ourselves!

While renovating the new MOMables kitchen, we needed to cover up a narrow doorway and install a fresh set of French doors. Our budget for the renovation was tight, so hiring a professional was not an option

Replacing the doors was the easy part, but then we were left thinking “how do we fix the exterior of the house?” The idea of fully replacing the lap siding was a daunting one. The expense alone could have been a deal breaker! So we began to look into ways we could handle the task ourselves.

That’s where the DIYZ app came in handy. It’s an app that offers comprehensive step-by-step instructions and hands-on video tutorials for many home improvement projects. The videos showed us how to replace lap siding just like the professionals without any hiccups.

Of course, since we had already used the app to build our farmhouse window trim, we knew it would be able to help us replace the lap siding in the same way.

Thankfully, our project was pretty straightforward and we didn’t need have any trouble following the step-by-step videos and instructions. However, it was awesome to know that the app offered a video-chat feature that would have allowed us to get professional help from a licensed contractor in real-time at any point during our project.

First, we severed the caulk and paint, running a utility knife along the ends of the boards and laps. Then we pried up the old boards and removed the nails.

With the old boards out of the way, we were able to install new doors, cut new siding and install it. After resealing the boards and giving everything a fresh paint job, the project was complete!  The new doors have completely transformed our kitchen. It feels so open, vibrant, and modern with our new view to the backyard.

Through this process, we learned how easy tackling a project like this can be when you have the right instructions. There’s nothing more empowering than making home repairs on your own. Especially work that would cost you an arm and a leg to get done professionally. It turns out, the feeling is addictive, and we’ve gone on to install our kitchen sink, lighting fixtures, and more with the help of the DIYZ app.

DIYZ app is free to download on your iOS or Android device. Use it to browse projects, get expert advice, and find inspiration by simple how-to videos for your next renovation project.

What will you renovate next?
