How I lost 40lbs of pregnancy weight 3x [no quick fix]

By Laura Fuentes Updated Mar 14, 2025

You might not know that I was 30 pounds overweight as a teenager and gained 40-45 pounds with each of my three pregnancies.

As a teen, I relied on food to provide comfort. I came to the US with my mom from Spain without speaking any English and I fed my loneliness and cultural inadequacy with sugary foods.

Years of this emotional dependency on food led to slow weight gain -which only made my 5-foot frame and my social shortcomings grow further.

I wasn’t athletic, I wasn’t “popular”, and felt invisible.

Fast forward to my 40-45lbs of pregnancy weight gain with each of my 3 babies. Also demoralizing because all those feelings of not being enough came back post-partum.

Weight gain with pregnancies is normal and to be expected -although at the time, there was little emotional support for this out there.

Over time, as I learned how to cook for myself and for my family, I also learned how to rely less on processed foods for our meals and added sugars + carbs to help me combat my constant state of exhaustion.

In this journey, tried many diets and 30-day programs -all of which I was going by myself since my husband didn’t need to lose weight and my kids refused to eat fancy scrambles for breakfast and salads + protein for lunch.

Since then, I learned that the BEST APPROACH to achieving my health and lifestyle goals, as a mom, was to incorporate my family in the journey.

This meant developing recipes that fit a clean eating program that everyone in my family would eat.

And that’s exactly what I did when I created The Family KickStart Program.

It includes recipes our kids love and want to eat -like breakfast muffins you can whip up the night before and pancakes- that fit my Whole30-like parameters.

Yes, you can prioritize your family’s health while cooking the same clean meals free of processed foods and added sugars for everyone.

The program includes 4 weeks of done-for-you meal plans with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipes, a meal prep sheet for each week, and the completed shopping lists.

It’s everything our weekly meal plan members love packaged into a family-friendly clean eating program you can do together for 30-days. The program guide explains it all too.

If you’re ready to reset the way your family eats hit the ground running with your personal health goals, check out the Family KickStart Program.
