How We Cleaned our Outdoor Entertaining Space

By Laura Fuentes Updated Apr 10, 2025

I was compensated for this post by the maker of OxiClean™.  All opinions written below are mine. Thank you for supporting the brands that encourage my creativity and work.

It's hard to believe we've been living in our home for 12 years. I remember the first day we moved in, walking through the front door with a key on hand and a three-month-old baby in my arms.

"We did it!" my husband and I said to each other as we took our first few steps inside. We couldn't believe it. Years of hard work, buying and selling two other homes, overcoming the loss of our business due to hurricane Katrina… all worth it at that moment.

Over the years, we've expanded our family with two more kids, and for six out of the twelve years we've lived in our home, we've hosted an exchange student to live with us.

You could say that our home has been the solid ground for more than a decade. Now, as times change and our lives have become more adventurous -as you know, we homeschool and travel a lot with our kids- we're considering selling our home and downsizing. Crazy, I know!

There are many selling points to our home that I know the next family will see; but one major selling point is our outdoor kitchen. I'm not talking about setting up a small bbq and a patio table here, but a fully functioning kitchen with a stove, oven, sink, and of course, the bbq. The refrigerator is around the corner in the garage for added temperature control.

My outdoor kitchen is one of my favorite parts of the house.

The outdoor space is one we use often, and therefore, gets a lot of traffic. There are stains in the cushions and on the rug. Sure, I could buy new ones but these are very recent purchases that I'd love to spruce up with a little help from my favorite stain remover: OxiClean.

For a few decades now, I've been adding OxiClean to my laundry for an added boost, removing kid stains from clothes (their OxiClean MaxForce Spray is a miracle worker with tomato sauce and ketchup!) and freshening up our linen closet every so often.

So when it came time to give our outdoor space a good cleanup, we used OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover to clean the cushions and rug. But that's not all! Once I went on their website to check proper stain removal directions for the outdoor fabrics, I realized that the stain fighting power of OxiClean is also great to clean out tile and grout! Whaaaaaa?

I couldn't believe it either. So, with my husband's help, we gave the outdoor kitchen tile a good scrub and the tile was better than new! All the dust and dirt from being exposed to the elements were gone in a matter of minutes making our kitchen the star of our outdoor space once again.

Always using the outdoor kitchen for quality family time.

Of course, there are more things that need to be done to get this house ready for sale but for now, I feel great about my home and the experience the next homeowner will have when they sit in their new outdoor kitchen and enjoy some great meals together like we have for years.
