Can You Toast Bread in the oven?

Yes! You can toast perfect golden bread in the oven very quickly! All you need is to place the bread on a baking sheet and toast it for 1 or 10 minutes, depending on your chosen method.

Your bread will come out golden on both sides with that crisp texture you love. After that, you can spread butter, and jam, or use the toast to make a sandwich.

Broil or Bake?

You can make toast without a toaster by broiling or baking the bread in the oven. Both settings work to achieve those nice golden pieces of toast, and they will take more or less time according to the method you choose.

Broil setting: that’s where the heat comes only from the top and reaches a high temperature very fast. It’s the quickest method, but you must stand watch by the oven since the bread can easily burn.

Bake setting: this is the traditional oven setting you’re using to make most of your oven meals. Here, the oven’s heat comes from the top and the bottom and the oven isn’t as hot. Toasting bread with the bake setting takes a little longer which is perfect if you’re doing other things at the same time.

What Temperature to Toast Bread in Oven

Using the BROIL setting, 30 seconds per side at this high temperature is all that’s needed to toast your bread. Using the BAKE setting, you’ll need to preheat the oven first to 350F, then toast the bread for about 5 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.

How to Toast Bread in the Oven

Enjoy perfect golden bread without a toaster in a couple of minutes in the oven. Here is how you can make toast in the oven quickly:

  1. Prep the oven
Place the oven rack in the top third of the oven. If you’re using the Bake setting, preheat the oven to 350F and wait for it to finish preheating.
  2. Assemble the bread
Place the bread slices directly on the baking sheet. Do not add oil or spread butter.
  3. Toast in the oven
Place the baking sheet with the bread in the oven. BROIL on HIGH for 30 seconds, flip, and another 30 seconds on the other side. Or, BAKE for 5 minutes, flip, and bake for 5 more minutes until golden and remove from the oven.
  4. Spread the butter
Now that the bread is perfectly toasted you can spread butter, peanut butter or other toast toppings and enjoy.
