Delicious and full of flavor, this Cinnamon Apple Bread is the best. Perfect for a yummy breakfast or to enjoy a slice for a treat!

This cinnamon apple bread is a classic fall bread loaf recipe, it’s so good that you’ll be for sure making it as part of your breakfast bread recipe rotation!

Moist Cinnamon Apple Bread

As written and tested many times, each slice of this quick bread recipe is both crumbly and moist.

There are some tricks to ensuring a moist loaf, such as following the cooking directions for both temperature and time, making sure the oven has reached the preheating temperature before putting the batter in, allowing the bread to fully cool before slicing, and not making any substitutions to the original recipe without understanding the outcome.

Ingredients

This simple apple and cinnamon quick bread recipe is made with pantry staple ingredients. Here’s what you need to make it:

  • Apples: dice them up and use your favorite type of apples.
  • Melted butter or coconut oil: either works well for this recipe.
  • Honey: used to sweeten and add moisture. Cannot be swapped for granulated sugar without compromising the texture. You can use maple syrup or agave instead.
  • Cinnamon: ground cinnamon or pumpkin spice pair great with apples.
  • Flour: this recipe uses all-purpose flour. This 1:1 Gluten-Free flour can also be used without making any changes.
  • Baking powder: essential to help the bread rise.
  • Salt: just a pinch to enhance the flavor.
  • Egg: the main binding agent in this recipe that holds the ingredients together.

As always, check the recipe card for the ingredient amounts and detailed cooking directions.

Best Apples to Use for Bread

While all apple varieties will work to make a bread loaf, Granny Smith (green) apples are traditionally used in baking because they hold their texture best. While they are a little tart raw, they caramelize and sweeten perfectly when baked, like in this roasted apples and cinnamon recipe.

No green apples on hand? No problem. Any other apple will work with the exception of Gala (a classic red apple) since its texture isn’t great for baking.

How to Make Cinnamon Apple Bread

Making this quick bread is no different than making banana bread at home and the best part, is that you don’t have to wait for the fruit to ripen. The ease of this bread recipe is just one more reason to make it. Here are the simple step-by-step directions to make homemade apple bread.

  1. Preheat
Adjust the oven rack to the middle oven position and preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a bread loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy lifting.
  2. Cook the apples
In a pan, add butter, diced apples, honey, and cinnamon. Cook apples down for 3 minutes until they’re soft.
  3. Combine the dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt together.
  4. Mix with the wet ingredients
Add the egg, melted butter, and honey, and whisk into a batter. Add cooked apples, and fold over to combine.
  5. Bake
Pour the apple batter into the prepared pan and cook in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. At this point, make a tent with foil and cook for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the middle.
  6. Cool and serve
Remove from the oven and allow the apple loaf to cool down before slicing.

Storing Leftovers

After the cinnamon apple bread loaf has cooled completely, you’ll want to store it in an airtight container. It can keep overnight on the counter or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Freezing Apple Cinnamon Bread

After cooling and slicing, wrap each individual slice with plastic wrap or inside a zip bag and freeze. It will stay fresh for up to 30 days.

To enjoy it, simply thaw it in a few minutes or warm it up lightly in the microwave for about 15 to 20 seconds.

How to Serve This Breakfast Bread

The batter was thicker than expected. It was ready to take out from my oven at 45 minutes. It also did not rise very much but it tasted great regardless. I was a little heavy with the baking powder and it didn’t help with rising.

Hi Shirley, thanks for sharing that it tasted great even though it didn’t rise too much for you. A couple of things: some ovens run warm and can cook breads faster. Was the oven rack in the middle position? And is your baking powder active? Those things can affect cooking time and rise.

I use 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon and no baking soda. Baking powder only in the recipe.
