These cottage cheese waffles turn out irresistible fluffy and fill bellies with extra protein and calcium!

Fluffy Cottage Cheese Waffles
Will my kids devour cottage cheese waffles for breakfast as they do with the classic ones? Yes! After they gave thumbs up to my cottage cheese pancakes, I had to make an epic version for days when we crave fluffy waffles!
Cottage cheese is great to give your family’s favorite breakfast a boost of natural protein since it’s easy to incorporate in the batter and its flavor is mild. I also have a recipe for cottage cheese banana muffins, and they are always a hit!
These waffles are super easy to make using the blender and a bowl; then you cook your waffles as always, and boom! You have a delicious breakfast packed with protein that everyone loves!
Ingredients
For perfect cottage cheese waffles, follow the ingredient measurements to the T. You’ll find them at the end of the post, but first, take a look at what you need and why:
- All-purpose flour: you can swap it for 1:1 all-purpose gluten-free flour.
- Cottage cheese: use your favorite to make this breakfast higher in protein.
- Eggs: you need them to bind the ingredients.
- Sugar: very little to make them sweet; you can omit it.
- Vanilla extract: did anyone say super delicious flavor?
- Water: or your favorite milk.
- Baking powder: rise the batter and make the waffles fluffy.
- Salt: just a little to activate the baking powder.
How Many Grams of Protein are in Each Waffle
Cottage cheese gives these waffles a protein boost, yielding about 6 grams of protein per waffle vs 2 grams from the classic recipe. This may vary depending on the size of your waffles.
How to Make Cottage Cheese Waffles
Since you’ll use the blender to mix the wet ingredients, there is very little work involved! Check out the steps and tips to make awesome cottage cheese waffles:
- Measure the flour
You’ll measure the flour in a medium bowl with enough space to add the liquid ingredients later. - Make the batter
Pour all the ingredients (except the flour) into the blender jar in the order listed and blend to incorporate. - Combine
Pour the liquid mix into the bowl with the flour. Use a rubber spatula to incorporate the ingredients, working the flour from the outside of the bowl until everything is just combined. You don’t want to overmix. - Cook
Grease the waffle mixer (I prefer butter for brown exteriors), and pour the batter, leaving a little room since it will expand. Cook until the cottage cheese waffles are golden brown, and they lift easily. - Enjoy!
Time to add your favorite toppings and enjoy!

What the Batter Looks Like
Incorporating the liquid mix with the flour gives you an even batter with no lumps. You want to mix them until incorporated, no longer than that. An overmixed batter will not yield fluffy waffles!
Best Toppings for Cottage Cheese Waffles
A little butter, mixed berries…oh my! Yes, I admit those are my favorite toppings for waffles, but you can also top your waffles with maple syrup, sliced banana, walnuts, and cinnamon, or add a dollop of cottage cheese or Greek yogurt. Delish!
Storing & Reheating Leftovers
I like to cook extra cottage cheese waffles, so I have leftovers for the following mornings! Place them in a zip bag or airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat them in the microwave, the toaster, or the oven.
You can freeze waffle leftovers for up to 3 months by placing them in parchment paper and, once frozen, storing them in a freezer-safe zip bag. You can reheat them the same way, just longer!

Okay, so I’m trying to increase my protein intake but adding things like cottage cheese stresses me out because I don’t want to change the taste or texture. That being said— these are AMAZING. No one in my family could tell or cared that there is cottage cheese. Such a win. Thanks for the great recipe!
