Eating a tostada can be a challenge, especially if you don’t want to drop any of those precious ingredients on top when you don’t have to!

If you’re craving a tostada but don’t exactly know how to eat it without dropping half of it back onto your plate or on your lap, find out how you can eat a tostada without getting messy!

What is a Tostada

A tostada is a corn tortilla that has been fried or baked flat. It’s a crispy base that’s typically used as a “flat taco” to pile on all your favorite taco toppings and meat.

Do You Eat a Tostada Like a Taco?

For most of us, eating a tostada has proven to be a challenge -otherwise, you wouldn’t be here reading, and I wouldn’t have eaten my share of both and noted the differences.

A taco, which is U-shaped, is stuffed and filled with the main ingredient, and then the toppings are piled on top -while hoping it doesn’t crack the shell. Then, you turn your head sideways and take a bite. Some of the toppings may fall out, but the risk vs. reward is totally worth it.

When eating a tostada, you’re balancing the mile-high pile of ingredients and toppings on a fragile crispy surface. There is no turning it sideways because it’s a serious balancing act!

To eat a tostada while minimizing breakage, place all the ingredients on the entire tostada surface and use both hands to hold it and head straight on to take a bite.

How to Eat a Tostada, the Easy Way

While there can be many ways to eat a tostada, here are the simple steps to eat it the easiest way possible.

  1. Pile everything on evenly
Cover the entire surface of the tostada with the main ingredient and all your favorite taco toppings, not just the middle.
  2. Use both hands for support
Since a tostada is round, grab it with both hands and lift it up towards your mouth. Don’t tilt it, turn it, or try to do anything else fancy with it. Just hold it straight.
  3. Take a bite
Once you’re ready to take a bite, pull the tostada towards your mouth and have at it!
  4. Regroup
After your first bite, you can keep going and chow down. Or, you can set the tostada down on the plate, make sure the ingredients are again evenly distributed, and continue enjoying it!

Pro Tip: You are going to spill a few toppings off as you’re biting down on the tostada. Once you set the tostada back down on the plate, use a fork to pick up the dropped toppings and add them back on top.

How to Eat a Tostada with a Fork

To eat a tostada with a fork, first, load up the tostada with all the ingredients and pile up the toppings, making sure to cover the entire surface. With the edge of your fork, break off a small piece smaller than a nacho chip.

With the help of a knife, load the piece up onto the fork, and eat. Otherwise, you can gently lift the piece with your fingertips onto the fork, but I’m guessing you’re reading this because you’re trying to avoid using your hands.
