Laura’s Tips for Blueberry Coffee Cake
While the batter calls for softened butter, use cold and cubed butter for the best crumble texture.
In a preheated oven at 350F, this blueberry coffee cake is done after 50 to 60 minutes of baking. That said, not all ovens are the same, so make sure to insert a toothpick in the center to check doneness. If it comes out clean or with a few breadcrumbs, you know the cake is ready, and it’s time to remove it from the oven.
Once the cake has cooled down fully, cover it with plastic wrap or place it in a lidded container. It can stay on the counter for 2 days or in the fridge for 5 days. You can also freeze leftovers by wrapping individual pieces with plastic wrap or inside zip bags for up to 2 months.
What to Serve with It
As a coffee lover, one slice of this blueberry coffee cake with a classic New Orleans cafe au lait or a cup of instant iced coffee on warm days is a perfect treat. My kids love this cake with my homemade hot cocoa or a healthy smoothie. We often add fresh fruit on the side or a dollop of Greek Yogurt on top.

Lydia Walstad says
Instead of greek yogurt (we have a dairy allergy) do you think I could substitute coconut oil for it? Or do you have any other suggestions?
Laura Fuentes says
Unfortunately you need the yogurt thickness with this recipe. Can you buy a coconut yogurt? Oil will deflate the cake.

I was in charge of “breakfasty food” for our Bible Fellowship class today. Measured it last night and assembled and baked this morning. It was a cinch – and it went over SO well.

So glad that it was a success!
Ellie says
What could I use in place of the Greek yogurt, my daughter cannot have any dairy due to allergy. Thanks for any suggestions you may have!
Laura Fuentes says
Ellie, I have not made this dairy free. I’ve heard of others using white bean puree.
