Enjoy the taste of New Orleans at home with this simple Stuffed Snowball recipe!

These New Orleans stuffed snowballs are a fun way to combat the summer heat and couldn’t be any easier to make!

Stuffed Snowballs Recipe

Before moving to New Orleans, I had never heard of a snowball, much less of a stuffed snowball. I learned about them a few years later, after I had kids and their grandparents would celebrate summer with a deliciously sweet treat.

Luckily for my kids, snowball stands are easy to find where we live. It is, after all, a New Orleans tradition. But what about most days, when we are home, playing in the back yard during a hot summer afternoon and we need something fun to cool off with? Homemade snowballs to the rescue!

First off, I have to credit my daughter for “inventing” this homemade process. As you can imagine, we spend a lot of time in the kitchen but my favorite moments are those where I have my kids with me creating the recipes that have a rich history. And this one, my friends, is one we are super excited to share with you!

side by side images of the new orleans snowball making process

Ingredients

Three ingredients and boom! You have classic New Orleans stuffed snowballs. Here’s what I use in this recipe:

  • Ice: to turn it into snow!
  • Fruit juice: use your favorite; mine is grape juice, while my daughter loves orange juice.
  • Ice cream: I use vanilla light ice cream.

How to Make New Orleans Stuffed Snowballs

Can you imagine how a small scoop of ice cream will transform a regular snowball into a delicious treat? Oh wait, you don’t have to “imagine” it, you can just watch the quick video below where my daughter and I show you how to make the shaved ice at home. But first, the simple steps:

  1. Make snow
Blend the ice in the blender until it looks like snow.
  2. Combine
To the serving cups, add ice and enough juice to cover it. Then, add the ice cream, more shaved ice, and juice. Enjoy!

Now check out the video:

Video day was such a success that word spread fast among my kids’ friends and all of the sudden they all wanted a snowball party. Of course, how could we not make the time together a little richer without stuffing these snowballs as well?

More frozen treats kids will love

Using real ingredients and non all of the sugar and weird stuff you’ll find in most store-bought ice cream, you can make sweet treats you’ll kids and you will love! I’m talking of delicious Greek yogurt popsicles or my 2-Ingredients Chocolate Banana Ice Cream Recipe.

What about a super easy pineapple dole whip? I’m in! Or these epic strawberry cheesecake ice cream sandwiches you can assemble in only 10 minutes. Amazing!
