It often takes a lot more work than one initially imagines to bring a vision for a project to fruition. And, to give the Studio a much-needed curb appeal, was no different.
Every day, I’d cringe at the sight of my corner house, prominently displaying cracked paint, unsightly trim, and weathered wood from every angle. Maybe not from afar, but every time I’d walk up to the door or parked my car on the side -essentially, daily.
I wanted something bright, fun, and colorful to reflect the exciting things going on inside. I’ve already fallen in love with the color combinations found in HGTV HOME ™ by Sherwin-Williams Color Collections, which I used for the interior of the studio. Their 16 designer-curated Color Collections feature 20 paint colors that were carefully selected to work together in any combination.
I had already selected the Urban Outlook Color Collection for the inside, so I knew I wanted to carry on the same color palette for my exterior paint. This saved me a lot of time because I’m not one of those people that do well with too many options. All I had to do was select the colors I liked from the Urban Outlook Color Collection, leaving the color matching to the professionals.
Each Color Collection has a different style and color scheme in mind to bring vibrancy and character to any part of your home. I can’t get enough of the Urban Outlook Color Collection because it brings out the best colors inspired by modern design, and they feel organic to any space. This gives the Studio the perfect mix of a little New York (urban) and a little country (where I live).
Before starting this outdoor painting project, we pressure washed the entire outside of the house. This is a crucial step that cleans each of the surfaces, preparing them for a fresh coat, and removing any unnecessary paint that was ready to come off anyway.
Just as with the inside, I selected the slightly monochromatic look, planning to add a splash of color and bring a statement piece to the porch. We took down the shutters and swing and laid them down, covering them in a couple of fresh coats of Online (HGSW7072). After letting them dry for 24 hours, they were ready to be reinstalled.
Repainting the columns and trim with Greek Villa (HGSW7551) brightened up the porch details. I used the new which has advanced all-weather protection. Selecting the right paint that would hold up to our hot and humid weather in Louisiana was very important. The combination of the paint’s fantastic coverage mixed with weather protection ensures that this color will last for years to come!
For the front door and Adirondack chair, we went bold and blue with Amalfi (HGSW341). I knew the colors would match the rest of the detail colors perfectly, as they are from the same scheme. And yes, the Amalfi blue is the same one we used on our pantry barn doors, creating a bit of a statement piece.
Check out these before and after photos! Can you believe it’s the same house? This proves that a couple of gallons of the right paint can up the curb appeal of any country cottage.
Using the colors and combinations of HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams saved me a lot of time; and the paint, according to my husband, “was the easiest exterior paint to put on as well as incredible coverage.”
I couldn’t be happier with the result! Now it’s time to sit back, sip some lemonade and play fetch with the puppy! I’m kidding. But I do love sitting on our front porch and taking my conference calls outside.
What have you been able to transform with a fresh coat of paint?
