Tart apple slices stuffed with toasty marshmallows and caramel chocolate pieces make these healthy s'mores a delicious treat.

You want healthy s’mores but don’t want to sacrifice the classic gooey marshmallow? Try these caramel apple s’mores for a fun twist on the classic!

Healthier Alternative to S’mores

These apple s’mores make an epic and healthier alternative to classic s’mores. Instead of graham crackers, the gooey toasted marshmallow and melted chocolate caramel bits get sandwiched between two Granny Smith apple slices.

Looking to mix things up even more? You could also try my Roasted Strawberry S’mores recipe or my epic air fryer s’mores.

Healthy Apple S’more Ingredients

  • Apples: use tart-sweet apple varieties such as Granny Smith, Pink Lady, or Honey Crisp.
  • Chocolate toffee pieces: the chocolate-caramel pieces taste amazing with melted marshmallows, but you can also make these with regular milk chocolate pieces.
  • Large marshmallow: toasted to your preference and sandwiched between the apple and chocolate. You can also use homemade marshmallows for these!

If you want to prep the apples beforehand, prevent the fresh apple slices from browning by soaking them in a solution of water and fresh citrus juice (lemon and pineapple juice work great).

How to Cut Apples for S’mores

Use a sharp kitchen knife or mandolin to cut the apples into thin rounds; they should be about ⅓-inch thick. You want them thick enough to hold the s’mores stuffing but not so thick all you are eating is an apple.

To do this with a sharp knife, place the apple upright on a flat surface, and use the knife to make the slices. You can skip over the core section, or carefully slice through it and remove the fibrous center and seeds from the apple rounds after.

How to Make Apple S’mores

Apple s’mores are just as easy to assemble as regular s’mores, and you don’t need a campfire. You can toast the marshmallows over a gas stove burner or broil them on a baking sheet in the oven.

Now, let’s make these healthy s’mores happen!

  1. Cut the apples
Use a sharp kitchen knife to slice the apple into ⅓-inch thick rounds.
Place the rounds onto a flat surface and sprinkle half of them with the chocolate caramel pieces.
  2. Roast
Toast the marshmallow over an open flame until it reaches your desired level of toasty. *I love mine almost burnt.
  3. Assemble
Place the gooey marshmallow over the chopped chocolate pieces and top with another apple slice. Press down until the marshmallow melts into the chocolate, and take a bite!

We love apple slices with peanut or almond butter, but we’ve also made apple nachos for dessert with other toppings like chocolate chips and coconut. It sounds like we really need to try Nature Seal. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the awesome prize pack! We love Nature Seal. It worked perfectly to keep our apples crisp and from getting brown. We made this recipe exactly as shown, and it was perfect. Kid approved s’mores alternative. It’s a nice light dessert after a big meal, not too heavy like traditional s’mores. And we love the apple & caramel flavors. Very good. I highly recommend this recipe. Thanks again for the awesome prize!!

One of our favorite ways to eat apple slices is to push Nerds candy into them which makes them taste like a candy apple! It’s not a healthy way to eat them, but definitely one of our favs! Haha
