This recipe takes classic French toast to an entirely new level, and it’s baked on a sheet pan for an easier, mess-free breakfast everyone can eat at the same time.

Homemade French Toast Sticks
If your kids adore those French toast sticks from the grocery store, then they’re going to love this homemade version you can make at home with real ingredients like bread, milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar.
They’re warm on the inside and crispy on the outside for an epic breakfast you can pick up and eat!
Ingredients
Here’s a list of everything you’ll need to make these cinnamon French toast sticks:
- sugar: just a little sugar to give the French toast sweetness and create a golden crust.
- cinnamon: an essential flavor that makes these French toasts sticks even better than the frozen option.
- milk: use regular milk or a non-dairy alternative such as almond, soy, or oat milk.
- eggs: helps bind the cinnamon and sugar to the bread and create a crispy crust.
- vanilla: just enough to compliment the cinnamon.
- thick bread: options such as brioche, challah, or Texas toast are perfect!
How to Make French Toast Sticks in the Oven
French toast in the oven? Yes, it’s not quite the same as classic French toast made on the stove-top but no less delicious. Here’s what to do:
- Slice the bread
Cut each slice of bread vertically into 3 strips. For this recipe, I highly recommend one of these bread options for French toast. - Get the oven hot
Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Mix the cinnamon and sugar
In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon, and set aside. - Make the liquid base
In a shallow dish, whisk the milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. - Time to take a dip
Place the sliced breadsticks into the egg mixture, letting them soak on each side until they soak up enough liquid. Lift the slices to allow excess liquid to drip off and transfer them onto the lined baking pan. - Add a little cinnamon sugar
Place the sticks onto the baking sheet and sprinkle the tops with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. - Bake to perfection
Bake the french toast in the preheated oven for 13 minutes, remove the tray from the oven, and flip over each french toast stick. Sprinkle the tops with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Bake for an additional 13 to 15 minutes until the edges are golden and the middles are cooked through. - Grab the syrup!
Remove the french toast sticks from the oven and serve with powdered sugar or maple syrup. Maybe both?

Keep French Toast Sticks from Getting Soggy
To make sure these french toast sticks are crispy, don’t soak the slices in the egg mixture too long, about 30 seconds per side, and space them out onto the baking sheet. Crowding the slices too closely together will cause them to steam and turn out soggy.
How to Serve Cinnamon French Toast Sticks
French toast sticks are made for dunking into syrup and below, I’ve included a few of my favorite homemade syrups for pancakes, waffles, and recipes like this:

Frozen French Toast Sticks
You can also freeze this recipe for when you’re in a pinch. It really is just like the storebought option but so much tastier and better for you! Simply bake the French toast sticks according to the directions and allow to cool.
Place the cooled baking tray into the freezer and freeze the French toast sticks for 1 hour until solid. Then, transfer the frozen sticks to a freezer-safe zip bag and freeze for 3 months. To reheat, microwave for 2 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Cinnamon French Toast Sticks (Easy Oven Recipe)

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 8 slices thick toast bread
Instructions
Prep:
- Preheat oven to 350F, position the top oven rack in the middle of the oven, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon, and set aside.
- Cut each thick slice of bread into 3 to 4 vertical pieces. If you're using regular sandwich bread slices (vs. thick Texas toast) baking time will be shorter.
- In a 9×9-inch square baking dish or shallow dish, whisk the milk, eggs, and vanilla.
Soak the cinnamon sticks:
- Dip the sliced bread sticks in the egg mixture, turning each stick to soak up enough liquid on each side. Use a fork to lift them out and let the excess liquid drip back onto the dish. Then, place them on the lined baking pan. Repeat the process with all the bread slices.
- Sprinkle the tops of the breadsticks with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Bake:
- Bake the french toast sticks in the preheated oven for 12 minutes, remove the tray from the oven, turn them over, and sprinkle the tops with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Bake for an additional 12 to 15 minutes until the tops are golden and the middles are cooked through.
Serve:
- Dust with a little powdered sugar (optional) and serve with maple syrup.
