One bite of this thick, puffy Texas Toast French Toast, and you’ll swear you’re at the best brunch spot in town but without the wait.

French Toast with Texas Toast
My middle son is a total French toast fanatic, and he always tells me he loves me extra when I make it with Texas toast. They’re thick and pillowy, and they soak up just the right amount of egg mixture.
When I’m feeling extra fancy, I turn these into banana French toast or drizzle them with blueberry syrup or strawberry syrup. And if I’m out of milk, I’ll keep it basic and make French toast without milk. We’re big fans of breakfast at my house, if you can’t tell.
Ingredients
The star of this breakfast event is the thick slices of Texas toast bread, which get soaked in a sweet liquid made of eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
How to Make Texas French Toast
You can mix the ingredients for the soaking liquid base in a shallow baking dish with a fork or a blender. Then, soak as many slices as you can cook on your pan or griddle in the liquid for 15 seconds on each side. Immediately place the soaked slices on a hot, greased surface and cook for 2 minutes per side over medium heat. After you flip them, you know they’re ready when the middles feel puffy.
Texas French Toast

Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 8 pieces Texas toast
Instructions
Prep:
- In a shallow dish, such as a 9×9 baking dish, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. You can blend the liquid ingredients and then pour them into the dish.
- Soak 2 Texas toasts at a time, for about 15 seconds per side, or as many toasts as you can fit in your pan or griddle.
Cook:
- Heat a large non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, grease it with a little butter and immediately place the dipped Texas toast on the hot surface.
- Cook the first side for about 2 minutes until the bottom is nicely golden. Flip the toast over and cook the second side for an additional 2 minutes until the tops puff up in the middle. Remove them from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining Texas toast.
Serve:
- Serve them hot, topped with your favorite toppings and syrups or a light dusting of powdered sugar.

Just made this for my family before school. It was a huge hit. Recipe was quick and delicious, just the right balance of egg and milk/ cinnamon flavor. It took a little longer than 2 minutes per side to get to the crispness desired so adjust as necessary. Kids had with sliced bananas, powdered sugar and whipped cream – excellent. Thanks for the recipe!
