I share my easy recipe for French toast sticks and all the tips and tricks to cook them in the air fryer to golden perfection quickly.

Homemade French Toast Sticks in the Air Fryer
When I started using the air fryer, little did I know it would be my favorite way to make French toast -and a lot of other meals aside from fries and nuggets. So, French toast sticks in the air fryer? Oh, yes! And it’s about to become your favorite cooking method too.
My kids never turn down French toast sticks, and using the air fryer is the perfect method for teaching them how to fend for themselves -without having to buy the frozen ones. These turn out golden, crispy, and with cooked fluffy centers. A little cinnamon syrup on top and the most epic breakfast is ready!
What I also love about this recipe is that you can enjoy French toast sticks with a heavenly texture and forget about clean-up. It’s so simple and mess-free you’ll never come back to the pan!
Ingredients
Crispily delicious French toast sticks are super easy to make and all you need are simple everyday staples! Amounts are at the end of the post, but first, check out what you need to know:
- Thick bread: any bread works, but hearty bread yields the best texture.
- Eggs: essential for French toast sticks.
- Milk: your favorite dairy or non-dairy milk.
- Vanilla extract: did anyone say deliciousness?
- Sugar: for sweetness.
- Cinnamon: a classic French toast flavor!
The Best Bread for French Toast Sticks
While you can use any bread to make French toast sticks in the air fryer, thicker breads are best for French toast since they hold their texture better when absorbing liquid. Some great options are loaf bread, brioche, Texas toast, and challah.
How to Air Fry French Toast Sticks
Turn on the air fryer and let’s make these delicious French toast sticks that will rock your breakfast routine after the first bite! Here are the steps:
- Prep
While the air fryer preheats, slice the bread slices into 3 or 4 vertical pieces. - Mix
The cinnamon and sugar get combined and set aside -you’ll want to sprinkle this on top at the end -and in a bowl, mix up the other ingredients to make the wet mixture to soak the bread in. - Soak
Soak as many bread pieces at a time in the egg mixture as you can fit inside your air fryer, about 15 seconds each. - Get ready to cook!
Grease the air fryer with a little butter or cooking spray once the surface is hot (not before). You don't want to overcrowd the air fryer basket, so place the sticks apart enough so they don't touch and the air can circulate. - Cook
Cook the French toast sticks for about 2-3 minutes per side. You know they’re ready once the sticks are golden brown and the middles have puffed up. - Serve
Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mix, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

How Long Does it Take to Cook French Toast in the Air Fryer
With the air fryer set to 375F, French toast sticks are cooked in about 6 minutes (3 minutes on the first side and 2 to 3 minutes on the other). Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the bread you’re using. You’ll know the sticks are ready when the second side looks golden brown, and the middles are puffed up.
Can You Air Fry Frozen French Toast Sticks
Yes! You can air fry store-bought frozen French toast sticks by setting your air fryer to 375F (190C) and cooking the sticks for about 3 minutes per side.
Tips and Tricks
This air fryer recipe is super easy, and if you follow these tips and tricks, your French toast sticks will have a perfect texture every time!
Use a thick bread
French toast sticks can be made with any bread, but heartier bread works best since it holds its texture better when you soak it in the egg and milk mixture.
Keep the bread from getting soggy
Soaking time varies depending on the bread thickness but all you need is 15 to 30 seconds total. Let the excess liquid drip back into the dish.
Don’t stack
Soak as many French toast sticks as you can fit at a time in the air fryer basket without overcrowding or stacking it so the air can circulate and the bread turns out crispy.
How to Serve French Toast Sticks
I like to sprinkle these sticks with powdered sugar or a little cinnamon sugar. Then, a drizzle of syrup or honey, and yum! My homemade strawberry syrup and this blueberry syrup are always a hit! You can also add sliced fruit, berries, nuts, or peanut butter for extra nutrition.

Air Fryer French Toast Sticks

Ingredients
- 4 slices bread
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon, divided
- 2 teaspoons sugar
Instructions
Prep:
- Preheat the air fryer to 375F (190C) without the trays.
- Slice the bread slices into 3 to 4 vertical pieces (sticks).
- In a small dish, combine ½ teaspoon cinnamon and 2 teaspoons sugar and set aside.
- In a 9×13 baking dish, whisk the eggs. Add the milk, vanilla, and remaining ½ teaspoon of cinnamon and whisk to combine.
- Place the bread stick slices in the baking dish and let the first side soak up the egg mixture for 15 seconds per side. TIP: soak as many bread "sticks" at one time as you can fit inside your air fryer.
Cook:
- Spread a little butter on the hot air fryer basket or spray it with cooking spray. Do this after it's done preheating. Place the soaked French toast sticks in the preheated air fryer, working in batches if necessary, apart so they don't touch.
- Cook at 370F (190C) for approximately a total of 6 minutes, flipping the slices over after 3 minutes and cooking the second side for another 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the thickness of the bread used. You'll know they are ready when the second side is golden brown, and the middles have puffed up (this means they're cooked through).
Serve:
- Remove the French toast sticks from the air fryer and sprinkle them with some of the cinnamon sugar.
