Velvety dark hot chocolate that tastes luxurious with a few simple ingredients and comes together easily!

Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa
My family loves hot chocolate. Whether it is the holiday season, a special occasion, or just a little cold outside, it’s time for sipping! My homemade hot cocoa has been a favorite for years, and I’ve made many variations. Now it’s time for this Dark Hot Chocolate recipe!
This recipe uses chocolate chips to yield a rich, velvety chocolate texture instead of the cocoa powder I use for hot cocoa. Yes, if you were wondering, that’s the difference between hot cocoa and hot chocolate.
Ingredients
To make this hot chocolate recipe, you’ll need dairy or non-dairy milk, vanilla extract, dark chocolate chips (or coarsely chopped dark chocolate), and just enough sugar to add sweetness.
How to Make Dark Hot Chocolate
This dark hot chocolate comes together by whisking milk and vanilla until it simmers. Then, add the sugar and chocolate chips. Remember to stir consistently! Once the chocolate chips are melted, ladle the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or your favorite hot cocoa toppings.

More Ways to Make Hot Chocolate
Take your mug up a notch and make my creamy cinnamon hot chocolate or this caramel hot cocoa. Delish! My kids always ask for this strawberry hot chocolate or my raspberry hot chocolate for Valentine’s Day, they’re pink and taste amazing!
