If you want to get the benefits of drinking whole juice without spending $4 per bottle at the grocery store, this berry juice recipe is the perfect start.

You can make it in a high-speed blender or juicer if you have one, for a purple glass of delicious berry flavor with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

large glass of bright purple berry juice

Berry Juice ingredients

For this berry juice recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Water: helps everything blend up smoothly.
  • Fresh kale: could also be spinach.
  • Frozen mixed berries: blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

While you can use fresh fruit, I recommend frozen since it makes the juice taste even more refreshing. On the other hand, kale can be fresh or frozen.

The 2 cups of berries help to sweeten this juice and mask up the kale flavor, no honey or added sugar is necessary.

How to Make Berry Juice in a Blender

To make juice in a blender, you need a high-speed blender that can liquefy whole veggies and fruit without leaving behind a lot of pulp. Both Vitamix and BlendTec are excellent options.

Here’s how to make berry juice in a blender:

  1. Rinse
Rinse the fresh kale with water to remove any debris.
  2. Process
Add the water, kale, and berries to the blender. Cover with lid and process on low, gradually increasing the speed to high. Process for 45 seconds until the mixture is smooth and liquified.
  3. Enjoy!
Transfer the smoothie into glasses and drink up!

Watch how it’s done in this quick video!

Making Berry Juice in a Juicer

To make this recipe in a juicer, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, adding the veggies and fruit to the chute and using the pusher to press them down.

In this case, fresh or defrosted berries are preferred and no water is necessary. The juicer does an excellent job of extracting all liquid. However, if you want to dilute the flavor, you can add water to the finished product and stir to combine.

Berry Juice Consistency

Berry juice made in the blender has a thicker consistency. Juice made in a juicer is much lighter and thinner with a few flecks of pulp.

If you don’t have a juicer and prefer the consistency of real juice, you can strain the blended liquid through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth. It’s an extra step but helps strain out the excess pulp.

Berry Juice Benefits

Both the kale and berries in this juice provide a ton of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. Each serving of this berry juice packs:

  • 85 calories
  • 5g of fiber
  • 42%- DV of vitamin A
  • 85%- DV of vitamin C
  • 205%- DV of vitamin K
  • 17%- DV of calcium

Depending on what berries you use, these also provide a ton of desirable nutrients to keep your immune system strong and feeling energized. For instance, blueberries contain 24% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C, 36% of vitamin K, and 25% of manganese, a trace mineral.

Just 1 cup of kale provides 206% of the daily value of vitamin A, 684% of vitamin K, and 134% of vitamin C, along with other trace minerals.

Berry juice made in the blender is slightly more nutritionally dense than juiced berries and kale. Why? The blender liquifies the veggies and fruit but keeps the pulp which packs a ton of fiber.  However, the juice itself is still an excellent source of vitamins and minerals.

Berry Juice Ingredient Swaps

Want to use the fruit and veggies you have on hand? Below, are other ingredients you can use to make your own juice at home.

  • spinach: a great source of iron, folic acid, and calcium. Slightly less bitter than kale.
  • raspberries: 1 cup provides 8 grams of fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants
  • strawberries: are widely available and provide vitamin C, manganese, and potassium.
  • mango: contains a hefty amount of vitamin C with other trace minerals such as copper and folate. Also gives the smoothie a tropical flavor.
  • pineapple: is packed with Vitamin C and manganese.
  • ginger: a popular ingredient for juices that adds flavor and helps with digestion. You’ll want to use 1 to 2 slices of fresh, peeled ginger, a little goes a long way.

I need a vitamix because my blender is in such bad shape that it takes me five minutes just to make a strawberry smoothie, and that’s not because I’m doing something fancy. The thing is getting ready to conk out on me.

As a busy wife, mother, and teacher I am always on the go and it would definitely ensure that I get the proper nutrition. Why do I need a vitamix? My husband comes home from work at 11:00 PM and makes himself a smoothie every night. The blender he uses is about forty years old had has a motor that sounds like an airplane engine. It takes about 10-15 minutes of random pulsing to get to smoothie consistency. So he wakes up the whole house. Fun.

I’m 46, live in Ohio and have literally wanted one my whole life! I suffered through eating smoothies made with other inferior contraptions (bcs you can’t drink a smoothie made with anything else, they are too chunky!) I’d really love for that someone to be myself & my family. I am over 100lbs overweight struggling to regain my goal weight & physique. Finally, my 14yr old is in Volleyball off-season conditioning, will be starting track soon & then summer softball. I have talked her into adding some greens into her protein & fruit smoothies. She likes the taste, but not the chunks of greens! We have been trying to save up for a Vitamix to help us feed our ten month old daughter who had end stage renal failure. She is tube fed and the blender we have doesn’t blend down enough to smoothly fit down her tube. A Vitamix is highly recommended for her diet as she transitions into whole foods. We don’t want to feed her formula anymore and know feeding her real, whole foods would help her greatly. She also had a twin sister who would benefit from the same and a three year old brother with developmental issues and food texture issues. Not to mention making some great soups and smoothies for my wife and I! Thanks for your consideration! God bless.

I need this! One of the many reasons is that I tend to include pureed veggies/protein/fruit in many of the meals I cook for my kids. Green veggies still give my son the heebie-jeebies, but if he can’t see it…well, I’ve managed to get some nutrients in him and he doesn’t even know it. Now, a normal blender doesn’t do this adequately–but I borrowed my mother’s vitamix and it was outstanding. That’s why I need one for myself =)

A few months ago I happened upon your momables blog. I was looking for ways in which I could feed all three of my children and provide healthy lunches for them, my husband and myself. I have recently had to go on a high protein and high fiber diet due to my hypothyroidism. The Vitamix would allow me to make quick smoothies for myself and my husband. I would also be able to make juices that actually contain fruit for my children. I could also “sneak” more vegetables into my daughters diet. With two jobs, it is hard to find the time to make smarter choices for my family and the Vitamix could help me with our busy schedule. Thank you for all the time you put into to helping others raise healthy children!

    Hi Laura!

I have wanted a Vitamix blender for over a year now and just can’t afford one. I saw a demonstration in Costco one day and was SOLD on the product. To watch my two children drink down a vegetable smoothie took my breath away. My 2 year old is a VERY picky eater and we often worry he isn’t eating enough healthy foods. My parents for Xmas bought us the Ninja Professional Blender thinking I could make veggie smoothies with that for the family, especially the kids…. HOWEVER, the first use- I basically cut my finger off. And it leaves the veggies gritty- NOTHING LIKE THE VITAMIX I experienced at Costco. 🙁 So I am back to square one praying for the Vitamix again.

I need this blender to “sneak” more vegies into my kids. My current blender doesn’t really liquefy all the parts. They know I put a carrot in their strawberries banana smoothie. This blender sounds like I could be the super vegie ninja and they would never know the difference.

WHEN I REV UP MY CURRENT BLENDER TO GET THE JOB DONE IT MOANS ANDS GROANS LIKE I JUST ASKED A 70 YEAR OLD TO RUN A MILE. WHILE IT IS NOT QUITE THAT OLD IT WILL SOON BE TIME TO LAY IT TO REST. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO LET IT REST IN PEACE WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT WHAT WE WILL DO WITHOUT IT. DUE TO MULTIPLE MEDICAL CONDITIONS IN OUR FAMILY IT IS AN APPLIANCE WE CAN NOT LIVE WITHOUT.

As a mother of four and gluten-intolerant, a Vitamix blender is an essential kitchen tool. I try to make healthy choices for my family, which requires a lot of preparation with fresh fruits and vegetables. I try to avoid pre-packaged foods and make my own instead. A Vitamix would allow me to create wholesome meals in a fraction of the time it would take otherwise.

They only agree on their smoothies filled with all the good things and the best thing is, they love their smoothies. Our blender is not very powerful, so a Vitamix would be the perfect blender to explore with additional ingredients and take blending into a different level….

When working as a personal assistant, I used my boss’ Vitamix all the time to prepare meals for her family. I made lots of healthy things (smoothies, soups), but one of my favorites was the custard for a chocolate-flan cake. I love baking and have had my own side business in the past. I want to get back to this and having a Vitamix would be a huge help. My current blender is an old Kitchen Aid that my husband tried to fix… unsuccessfully 🙁

After a month of my 12 year old being sick we found out that he has to change his diet and avoid gluetin and other things. Since he is overweight and borderline diabetic the doc suggested making our own food and trying juicing. As stressful as that is to think about matters were made worse by my doctor telling me that my flu that would not go away is in fact my liver and kidney not working well. I was put on a strict, mostly liquid, diet. Winning this would be a Godsend for us both and the rest if our family!!

We recently watched Forks over Knives and now our family of 3 is on a plant based diet. I’m pretty sure our current blender is the one we got 15 years ago for our wedding! With all of the smoothies we have been making I don’t think it has much life left in it’s motor.

I definitely need a new blender! The one I have is a cheapie I purchased over a decade ago when I moved into my first apartment. It can hardly blend soft foods and liquids, much less make a smoothie with ice in it. I would like to start making healthy smoothies for breakfast and snacks and try out some of the puréed soups I find recipes for.

A couple years ago my husband was on strict diets to lose weight because of a bad back and I have just wanted to get back into a healthy lifestyle having been pregnant or nursing since 2004. We have five little ones and we are wanting, from now, to teach healthy lifestyle choices; I do it with what I have now but a Viramix would just make that so much easier and it’s been a dream of mine to own one for quite some time now. Thank you

My 9 year old daughter is obsessed with how “skinny” she is (she is 70 lbs and 4’8) I keep telling her that as long as she is healthy it is ok to be slim. However she has started leaving more and more behind on her plate and in her lunch box due to picky eating so I am now worried that she is not getting enough. We decided together that she will drink 2 smoothies a day and eat a healthy dinner to at least maintain her weight. With the Vitamix my blending would be a breeze and cleanup quick and easy for my new smoothie queen. Also the berry green smoothie is perfect for me to get veggies into her drinks but do you have any suggestions for a good protein?

We make green smoothies and greek yogurt smoothies and banana ice cream, pancake batter and waffle batter and sorbets and salsa, that is just off the top of my head. My kids are on board with healthy eating and I’m proud to say they make great choices, often, for being kids, that would love to live on candy! 🙂 Thank you for this opportunity!

I need this blender because as a mom of 6 I don’t have a lot of ‘down’ time. This would allow me to prepare healthy and delicious drinks for my family without the expense of time. I have been introducing green smoothies to my family for about a year now. I make them in small batches and have to blend it for a while to get the greens to totally liquify. Having a Vitamix blender would save me time AND allow me to kick my family’s health up a notch because I’d be able to introduce green JUICES to my family. I’ve never juiced but would if I had an awesome product like this. I’m a stay-at-home mom and my husband works hard to take care of us. However, on our limited income there is no way I could justify such a purchase. But, to win a Vitamix blender would be such a blessing. It would totally open the door to renewed health and cooking options. Thanks for letting me enter.

My 6 year old recently stopped eating all the nutritious veggies she used to enjoy. Now I can only get her to eat carrots, occasionally green beans or a piece of broccoli. Thankfully, my 4 year old loves green veggies & they both love every kind of fruit! My magic bullet died last year & the cheap blender I replaced it with doesn’t do much good. I’d love to have a Vitamix! It would give us so many more options for meals & getting veggies in my girl!!!
