All you need are chocolate chips and milk to make this decadent hot chocolate in minutes. No mix, no fuss. All the goodness.

Hot Chocolate from Chocolate Chips
When I’m out of cocoa powder and can’t make classic hot cocoa or I’ve run out of my homemade hot cocoa mix, I make hot chocolate from chocolate chips with this recipe. Melting the semi-sweet chocolate into milk makes this a hot chocolate (vs. hot cocoa), and it gives this warm drink a richer, more luxurious flavor.
Ingredients
All you need are semi-sweet chocolate chips and milk (any) to make this recipe. The thicker the milk, the thicker your hot chocolate will be.
How to Make Hot Chocolate with Chocolate Chips
- Warm up the milk in a saucepan. You don't need to melt the chocolate chips separately before adding them to the milk.
- Add the chocolate chips to the warm milk and stir constantly to dissolve them. You don’t want them to sit at the bottom of the pot and burn.
- Pour it into mugs and serve it hot, topped with whipped cream, your favorite toppings, or keep your hot chocolate warm for later.

Making this for a crowd? Make a big batch of this hot chocolate with chocolate chips in a crockpot or on the stove, and use it to keep it warm.

Hot Chocolate with Chocolate Chips (2 ingredients)

Watch how it’s made:
Ingredients
- 3 cups milk, any
- ⅓ cup chocolate chips, heaping
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk, stirring from time to time. You'll see steam coming off the milk; do not boil it. Once warm, add chocolate chips and with a wooden spoon or whisk, gently stir to dissolve them in the milk. Stir constantly until they dissolve to avoid burning them at the bottom.
- Once the hot chocolate is warm and the chocolate chips have dissolved, turn off the heat and serve.
- Top with whipped cream and additional chocolate chips if desired.
