Don't want to break your egg yolk? Check out this post with a video and step-by-step instructions on how to flip an egg with and without a spatula.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to flip an egg in a frying pan without using a spatula? How about flipping it, so the egg yolk doesn’t break?

If that’s you, you’ve come to the right post because today, I’m going to share both a video and step-by-step instructions so you can make your egg-dreams come true.

I’m a huge fan of fried eggs as a healthy breakfast or to use as a topper for lunch salads or power bowls. They add extra protein, and those runny yolks are. MY. JAM.

How to Flip and Egg

Making the perfect fried egg, whether that’s sunny-side up or over easy is a sinch, and once you’ve mastered that step, it’s time to move onto the next: flipping an egg in the pan!

Best Pan for Frying Eggs

The smaller the pan, the better and easier it will be to flip your eggs. I prefer a 7 to 8-inch non-stick pan for the job.

If you want to fry and flip a lot of eggs at once a large, non-stick griddle will work great!

What grease to use to best flip eggs

I’ve tried butter, oil, and cooking spray on both non-stick pans and griddles. Out of the 3, I’ve found that cooking spray works best in giving the skillet an even and thorough coat of oil. It’s important to spray the sides of the pan too, so the egg glides easily when you flip it.

Oil or butter works great, however, make sure you have enough tot coat the entire surface of the pan.

For cast iron pans, you’ll need a generous amount of grease. I do not recommend using spray on a cast iron pan.

How to Flip an Egg, Step-by-Step

  1. Heat the pan over medium heat for about 15 seconds, then grease.
  2. Crack 1 to 2 eggs in the pan and cook for 5 minutes or until the egg whites are completely set.
  3. Once the egg whites are set, about 4 to 5 minutes, give the eggs a quick shimmy in the pan and using your wrist, toss the pan upward, using it to catch the eggs. Or, you can use a thin spatula to assist by sliding it under the egg and flipping it over.
  4. Cook for an additional minute or until the yolks reach your preferred doneness and remove from heat onto a plate.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, if desired, and enjoy!

And just like that, you’ve flipped your first egg! Don’t feel bad if it didn’t pan out as you expected, keep trying and you’ll get the hang of it in no time!
