Baked Salmon and Potatoes

While potatoes have a longer cook time than salmon, this recipe times it perfectly and keeps things simple, so you can make an entire meal in a single sheet pan with minimal cleanup.

The prep is minimal, just 10 minutes, and cleanup is a breeze -a bowl and a sheet pan -so there’s no reason not to make this recipe part of your mealtime rotation!

If you’ve been looking to incorporate more salmon recipes into your meals for all the health benefits of salmon.

Best Potatoes to Bake on a Pan with Salmon

My personal preference is baby potatoes because their skin is thin, and there’s no need to peel them, they cook quickly, especially when halved, and have a mild taste that pairs great with baked salmon.

Ingredients

Let’s look at the simple ingredients needed to cook this baked salmon and potatoes recipe.

  • Baby potatoes: no need to peel, just cut in half and quarter.
  • Olive oil: coats the potatoes and helps them achieve a crispy texture.
  • Salt & pepper: for seasoning.
  • Garlic powder: to add flavor to the potatoes.
  • Italian seasoning: works well on the salmon and the potatoes.
  • Salmon fillets: make sure that they’re thawed and ready to cook.
  • Cajun seasoning: add as much or as little as you’d like.
  • Butter: pairs great with the cajun seasoning and the salmon.
  • Lemon: a great garnish and perfect for squeezing some lemon juice on top of the cooked salmon and potatoes.

Plate the salmon, top it with ½ tablespoon of butter, allow it to melt over the top, and serve it with roasted potatoes.

Best Temperature to Bake Salmon

To achieve flaky salmon, cooking the salmon filets in the oven at 425 degrees for only 10 minutes works perfectly. You can also read this full post on the best time and temperatures to bake salmon.

How Long to Bake Salmon & Potatoes

While the entire meal cooks in one pan, there are two baking times to make a note of.

The potatoes are baked first and will take about 15 minutes for their first phase of cooking. Then, you add the salmon onto the baking sheet, and together they continue baking for another 10-12 minutes, for a total cooking time of 25-27 minutes.
