3 Healthy Back to School Portable Breakfast Ideas

As the school year is coming to a start and kids are rushing to the bus stop earlier than they’ve been up all summer, many kids rush out the door without the proper nutrition they need to start their day. Get ready for three healthy back to school breakfast ideas to get them going!

3 Easy Breakfast ideas to-go! Make your morning routines a breeze with these fast breakfast ideas kids can eat on the go.

Today, I’m sharing three nutritious make-ahead breakfast ideas that can help any parent have a quick, prepped breakfast their child can eat on their way out the door, making breakfast portable and delicious!

What I love about these ideas is that they are super easy to make and you can have them prepped and ready for the busy morning. Check out this quick video to learn how they are made.

The three breakfast ideas are packed inside an insulated to-go cup and with three layers of insulation, they help keep hot items hot and cold ones fresh.

The make-ahead parfait cups come together quickly, and they are also portable (yogurt + fruit + granola) in a to-go cup. With the tip of how to prevent the granola from getting soggy.

The second idea is Oatmeal to-go cups. What I love is that I can not only make them ahead of time and keep them in my pantry but I also customize the oatmeal cups with dried fruits, cinnamon, and anything else I might want to add. You can grab the recipe for oatmeal packets here and just fill the cups, or, for creamier oats, check out these overnight oats recipes.

Add a little hot water and they are the perfect breakfast fuel to stay focused at school.

The third idea is my husband and son’s favorite breakfast, it’s what I call: Scrambled Eggs To-go!

They love to eat eggs, and I don’t like to be a short order cook, so I often make a whole pan, put them inside an insulated to-go cup and they are a delicious grab-and-go protein-rich breakfast option.

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal to get you going in the morning so skipping it isn’t always the best idea if we want them to stay focused on learning at school.

And, since sitting at the breakfast table isn’t always an option, no matter how early we get up, I often opt for portable real food options like these.

What are some of your go-to portable breakfast ideas?

I make smoothies for myself & freeze in jars, pull the night before & ready after the gym in the morn. I pack my hubby & kids breakfast and lunch every day, I make ahead ground turkey, egg & veggie breakfast burrito & freeze for my hubby. Cinnamon muffins or waffles with peanut butter for the kids with fruit. So many ideas, so little time. I like the idea of making oatmeal cups ahead of time & adding hot water.

I make a veggie frittata the night before, slice it and store it in the fridge. In the morning, I heat the griddle and put four tortillas, each topped with a slice of frittata and some shredded cheese. As they are heating I set up four sheets of foil. When the cheese is melted I fold and wrap each one in foil. The whole bundle gets wrapped in a kitchen towel and tossed in my purse. Once everyone is buckled in, I pass them out. The kitchen towel is shared for wiping hands afterwards.

We do a lot of the overnight oats, there are so many ways to mix them up so they don’t get boring. I also cook up extra pancakes and waffles when we have them for a meal and pop them in the freezer.

My little ones and I love your breakfast cookies and we have made a few times the mini quiches. So easy and quick to make. I made them last night while my husband grilled dinner. Def going to look into these Chinet cups. We pack bfast, lunch and snack daily for the kids. We have to leave at 6:30 am for school and these would be great for in the car or when they eat bfast in their classroom.

If we are running late, I usually make smoothies and add a side of almonds or cashews. Or homemade muffins warmed up in the microwave. Sometimes my kids have come up with some pretty creative breakfasts to go like homemade guacamole on toast with a side of cherry tomatoes.

I love these ideas! We do a combo of 2-3 cereals(dry) and throw in fresh or dried fruit. The kids think it’s fun because they can throw it all together themselves. I like using cups for portable breakfast.

I have done smoothies or yogurt parfaits when we’re in a rush, but my kids also love grabbing a few energy balls when we have them on hand (mix peanut butter, oats or granola, dried fruit, coconut flakes, and a bit of honey and roll into balls. Throw in the fridge and they are easy to eat on the run!).

We do lots of muffins on-the-go at our house. Or homemade granola bars. But I love your ideas and will definitely try them! School starts next week for us.
