Cottage Cheese Toast Ideas
Cottage cheese is here to stay, and I’m more than grateful. I mean, who can refuse an extra dose of protein that pairs well with everything? Not this gal!
From banana pancakes to chicken sauce, I’m using cottage cheese in many recipes, so topping my toast with it for extra nutrition is a no-brainer. Here I share some of my favorite combos for you to try.
Benefits of Toast with Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese adds extra protein to any meal, including your morning toast, with about 24 grams of protein per cup, according to the USDA. Plus, it’s a rich source of minerals, especially calcium, phosphorus, and potassium.
Making Cottage Cheese Toast
Follow these simple tips for pieces of toast that hold your toppings perfectly:
Use a firm slice of bread
Choose your favorite bread and make sure the slices are large and thick enough to hold the cottage cheese and toppings.
Drain any excess liquid
The tube may contain excess liquid, so try to drain it to scoop only the cottage cheese curds.
Layer order matters
Add cottage cheese as the base and then add the toppings, placing the larger ones first and the smaller ones on top.
How Much Cottage Cheese Per Toast
Depending on the size of your toast, I recommend anywhere between ¼ cup to ⅓ cup of cottage cheese.
Preventing Soggy Toast From Cottage Cheese
You know that liquid in the cottage cheese tub? Yeah, my toast hates it because it makes it soggy. To avoid this, I tilt my spoon and drain any excess liquid back into the tub as I try to scoop mostly cottage cheese curds.
Veggie Cottage Cheese Toast
A crisp toast, some cottage cheese, and then one of these veggies helps me get more of them into my diet. The added crunch is also 100% my jam.

Here are a few of the veggies I like over cottage cheese:
- Tomatoes
- Radishes
- Cucumber slices
- Shredded carrots
- Arugula
- Spinach
- Sliced onions
- Chopped chives
- Chopped red pepper
- Sliced jalapeño
Cottage Cheese Toast with Soft Boiled Egg
If you love eggs in the morning, this toast with a soft-boiled egg is what breakfast dreams are made of!
This one features a combination of ingredients that provide healthy fats, omega-3s, selenium, protein, calcium, and essential nutrients, including microgreens for fiber and additional nutrients.

Whipped Cottage Cheese Toast
If the texture of cottage cheese curds isn’t your favorite, try whipping the cottage cheese into a spread. Then, you can top it with berries or jam (as shown), fruit, or any of the other toppings here.

Cottage Cheese Toast with Fruit
Fruit is always a good idea to add vitamins, fiber, and deliciousness to toast:
- Banana
- Apple
- Pear
- Peach
- Berries
- Kiwi
- Pineapple
- Figs
Cottage Cheese Avocado Toast
Add cottage cheese to the classic avocado toast and you’ll have a terrific high-protein meal that will keep you full longer –thank you, healthy fats.

Other things that pair great with cottage cheese and avocado include:
- Sliced cherry tomatoes
- Chopped hard-boiled egg
- Bacon bits
- Smoked salmon or tuna
- Seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, flax)
- Everything bagel seasoning
- A drizzle of olive oil
- Lemon juice
Filling Cottage Cheese Toast
The trick to make your cottage cheese toast more filling is to pair it with nutrient-dense ingredients, like avocados, greens (like spinach) for fiber, and other veggies for flavor (like sun-dried tomatoes).
