Taco cupcakes are the perfect finger food that’s always a winner with kids as a party appetizer or a fun recipe for your next taco night.

Ground Beef Taco Cupcakes
Maybe you already know that I’m a sucker for all things taco. Whatever I can serve inside a tortilla will become my next taco dinner. But in today’s recipe, I’m sticking to the classic ground meat taco and turning it into cupcakes by using wonton wrappers!
The crunchy edges, the meaty center, full of taco seasoning, and the cheese: this is beyond good! These little beauties make a fun dinner recipe and a delicious party appetizer that disappears FAST!
While these taco cups may look delicate and like a lot of work, they are super easy to prep! Once you cook the taco filling as usual, you simply assemble the wonton wrappers in a muffin pan, spoon the meat in, and bake. That’s it!

Ingredients
Combine classic taco ingredients with wonton wrappers instead of tortillas and boom! You have these scrumptious taco cupcakes. The ingredient measurements are in the recipe card below, but first, check out everything you need:
- Oil: for cooking and greasing the muffin pan.
- Ground beef: the leanest, the better!
- Taco seasoning: adds irresistible taco flavor in every bite!
- Tomato: you can use canned petite diced tomatoes, tomatoes & green chilies, or salsa.
- Wonton wrappers: you’ll find them in the produce section of your grocery store.
- Shredded Cheddar cheese: to make these cupcakes really cheesy!
- Toppings: salsa, guacamole, sour cream, chopped green onions, or your favorite taco toppings.

How to Make Taco Cupcakes
Believe it or not, this recipe takes less than half an hour from start to finish! You cook the filling, assemble the taco cupcakes, and bake. Voilá! Easy, right? Check it out:
- Preheat the oven
Start preheating the oven to 400F and position the top rack in the middle of the oven. - Cook the filling
Cook the ground beef, with the tomatoes and seasonings in a pan. - Prep the wonton taco cups
Layer the wonton wrappers inside each muffin tin cup and then fill them with the cooked filling. Oh, and you’ll be adding a cheesy layer too! - Bake
These only need about 10-15 minutes in the oven to achieve golden and crisp edges that make them irresistible. - Add the toppings
Once they’re out of the oven, you’ll load them up with your favorite taco toppings and watch them disappear.

Best Toppings for Taco Cups
Just like regular tacos, these delicious cups can be topped with your favorite ingredients for extra goodness! My favorite toppings for this recipe are salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and chopped green onions.
Other tasty additions for extra taste and texture are cilantro, chopped tomatoes and onions, corn kernels, cubed avocado, sliced olives, and shredded lettuce, carrots, or cabbage.

What to Serve with Them
Turn these fun taco cupcakes into a balanced and complete meal by serving them with Corn and Black Bean Salsa, Cilantro Lime Rice, or Southwest Quinoa Salad. Healthy and delicious sides that pair amazingly with these cups!
Need more ideas? I’ve got you covered! These Homemade Nachos, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, and Grilled Veggie Kabobs are terrific dinner sides and awesome for parties and entertaining! Or, if you want to stick with our cup theme, serve them next to these epic Lasagna Cupcakes!

Easy Taco Cupcakes

Ingredients
Taco cups:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 14 oz can petite diced tomatoes, drained
- 24 wonton wrappers
- 1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Toppings:
- Salsa, easy guacamole, sour cream, chopped green onions
Instructions
Prep:
- Preheat the oven to 400F and position the top rack in the middle of the oven.
Cook the filling:
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the oil and spread it over the pan. Cook the ground beef on the hot pan, breaking it up with a spatula as you go. Add the taco seasoning and continue cooking the ground beef until it's cooked through. Add the diced tomatoes to the cooked beef, stir to combine, and heat through. Turn off the heat and set aside.
- While the meat cooks, spray the muffin pan with oil. Place one wonton wrapper inside each cup, gently pushing them down into the space.
Assemble & Bake:
- Fill each cup with 1 tablespoon of meat and top with a sprinkle of cheese (about a teaspoon).
- Top this first layer with another wonton wrapper by placing it on top of the cheese, gently shaping it into the cup shape, spooning another tablespoon of meat, and sprinkling the remaining cheese over the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and crispy and the cheese on top has melted. Remove from the oven.
Serve:
- Carefully remove each taco cup from the muffin pan onto a serving plate or board, using a round knife if necessary to help lift them out.
- Top each taco cup with your favorite taco toppings like fresh salsa, sour cream, chopped green onions, and guacamole.
