This avocado salsa is packed with all the flavors you love from guacamole that's perfect for topping grilled meat, tacos, or chips!

One bite, and you'll fall head over heels for this simple avocado salsa. It's a good thing that's easy to make and also impressive for quick weeknight dinners or to woo a crowd at large gatherings.

Avocado Salsa Vs Guacamole

Avocado salsa is everything you love from guacamole without the smooth texture. It’s a thicker and chunky version that has all the appeal.

It consists of diced avocado, cilantro, and shallots tossed with lime juice and salt. It also doesn’t contain tomatoes like traditional salsa.

Fresh Ingredients

This avocado salsa is the definition of F-R-E-S-H, and you need only a few simple ingredients to make it:

  • Avocado: ripe avocados are what make this salsa epic.
  • Shallots: add crunchiness and a slightly sharp flavor. Red onions also work.
  • Cilantro: chopped really small.
  • Fresh lime juice: adds a citrusy note while helping slow down the avocado’s oxidation process.
  • Salt: a little is enough for seasoning.

Of course, you could bulk it up and stay true to those summery flavors by adding chopped tomatoes and cucumber. It will be more like a salad but works if you want it to be a stand-alone side dish.

How to Make Avocado Salsa

This easy salsa comes together in one bowl. It is best assembled before serving to prevent the avocado from browning, but more details on that later.

Here’s how to make restaurant-grade avocado salsa at home:

  1. Dice the avocado
Halve each avocado and remove the pits. Score each half of the avocado using a knife and use a large spoon to scoop out the center into a bowl.
  2. Toss to combine
Add the chopped shallots, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Toss to combine, and voila! It’s ready to eat!

How to Serve Fresh Avocado Salsa

No matter what you serve it with, this salsa will be the star of the show. It is the main dish and everything else "is on the side". Nonetheless, when you serve it with Grilled Chicken Kabobs or Beef Kabobs dinner can get even better!

Another yummy way to make it a balanced and satiating meal everyone will gladly inhale is this Grilled Avocado Chicken. You can also make Taco Tuesday one for the book by serving this salsa over chicken tacos. Yep, avocado and chicken are the perfect match!

How to Keep Avocado Salsa Green

Keeping avocados from going gray/brown can be a bit tricky since you are working against time. However, you can preserve the vivid green color of this salsa by preparing it no more than 6 hours before serving and keeping it refrigerated.

To slow down the oxidation process you can also sprinkle the top of the finished salsa with additional lime juice and cover with plastic wrap, pressing the plastic firmly over the top of the salsa to remove excess air.

How Long Does it Last?

Avocado salsa will last in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. In the meantime, the avocado will brown, and the other veggies will be a little wilted but no less delicious.

I love the chunkiness of this salsa. The richness of the avocado is so perfect with the other ingredients, and leaving it chunky makes the texture fantastic.
