A healthy family-favorite breaded Fish Bowls Recipe you can make at home on a budget!

Do you love serving colorful, vibrant meals that the whole family will enjoy? This homemade Fish Bowls Recipe is the way to go!

Frozen Fish Bowls

This Fish Bowls Recipe is a melting pot of flavors. Pineapple, soy sauce, spicy mayo… Oh my! My mouth is watering again! Since the fish fillets cook in about 20 minutes, these bowls come together in a matter of minutes, for a speedy, delicious, and trendy mid-week meal.

I use frozen breaded fish because my kids love it and I always keep it in the freezer for quick family dinners. You can also bake frozen salmon for this nutritious and easy meal. Both provide lots of protein and fit into this meal idea perfectly!

This Fish Bowls Recipe is also perfectly adaptable to kids and adults’ taste: everyone builds their own bowls and selects from the veggies offered, helping them learn to make great food choices!

Ingredients

This is one of the most balanced dinners you can bring to the table, and it’s super easy to customize! Here’s what I included in mine:

  • Breaded fish fillets: the delicious protein for these bowls.
  • Pineapple: for a hint of juicy sweetness!
  • Cucumber: add it sliced; peeling it or not is up to you.
  • Carrots: shredded or matchstick carrots add texture, nutrition, and flavor.
  • Avocado: creamily delicious and packed with healthy fats.
  • Kale: you can swap it for mixed greens or spinach.
  • Cooked rice: your favorite rice!
  • Chopped cilantro: for a nice and fresh note.
  • Edamame beans: thawed them before using them.
  • Dressing: I included a soy dressing below and two more tasty ideas. Feel free to use any dressing you love!

How to Make Fish Bowls

I see fish bowls similar to taco night. All you have to do is prepare the protein, break out the fresh ingredients, and have everybody assemble their own! Check out the simple steps for this recipe:

  1. Bake the fish
In a preheated oven over a lined baking sheet, cook the breaded fish for 22-24 minutes, flipping them halfway through for even cooking.
  2. Prep the other ingredients
While the fish cooks, chop the veggies and fruit, and place each one in small bowls.
  3. Make the dressing
It’s as simple as whisking the five dressing ingredients in a bowl!
  4. Assemble
Coarsely chop the cooked fish. Place a layer of rice in each bowl, then kale, fish, and the ingredients of your choice. Drizzle the dressing on top and enjoy!

Toppings and Add-Ins

What's fun about fish bowls are the endless possibilities of toppings and add-ins to be enjoyed. This is just the tip of the iceberg! It's easy to mix and match the veggies and other ingredients to you and your child's liking; all while adding a serving of protein with the breaded fish. Some tasty ideas are:

  • Shredded cabbage
  • Black beans
  • Cauliflower rice
  • Sliced onion
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Shredded cheese
  • Jalapeño
  • Corn
  • Mango
  • Olives
  • Roasted peppers
  • Pico de gallo
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa

My favorite ways to eat more fish are crispy fried fish tacos, fish sandwiches, tuna melts, and tuna salads.
