Laura’s Tips for Crispy Roasted Frozen Broccoli
Oil helps crisp them up, and the seasonings do what they do in making each bite super flavorful.
Spread the broccoli onto the baking sheet, leaving room between each piece. Crowding florets together will cause the broccoli to steam and lose any chance of developing that delicious roasted flavor. You should be able to see the bottom of the pan, if not, roast two pans.
Wait for the oven to finish preheating before you put the baking sheet in.
When roasting frozen broccoli by itself, the recommended temperature is 450F. The excess moisture will quickly evaporate at this temperature, and the broccoli will get a crisp texture and that bronzed glow and flavor you love.
If you’re roasting frozen broccoli with another protein, like in this Sheet pan Salmon Broccoli recipe, you’ll want to cook it at the required temperature for the protein, since veggies are much more forgiving in the oven and won’t dry out as quickly as chicken, pork, and fish.
Best Seasonings for Roasted Broccoli
You can season frozen broccoli before or after roasting, but before is preferred since some spices can be enhanced when roasted. Here are some delicious ideas:
- Roasted Vegetable Seasoning: my own combination of onion powder, garlic powder, dried parsley, and paprika. Use 2 teaspoons of seasoning with ½ teaspoon salt.
- Curry Seasoning: a blend of warm and sweet spices like turmeric, cumin, ginger, black pepper, and garlic. Use 2 teaspoons of seasoning with ½ teaspoon salt.
- Garlic Parmesan: garlic powder, salt, and fresh black pepper before roasting and sprinkle the grated Parmesan on the broccoli after roasting.
- Creole Seasoning: a mixture of paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, granulated onion, and herbs. It’s a must! Use 2 teaspoons of seasoning with ½ teaspoon salt.
- Pesto: bake the broccoli with salt, pepper, and oil, then toss with 2 tablespoons of your favorite pesto after it’s roasted.
Storing & Reheating Leftovers
Once cooled, save leftover broccoli in an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to 3 days. To reheat, transfer the florets to a microwave-safe dish and microwave for up to 2 minutes. The broccoli won’t be as crisp as it was from the oven, but the flavors will be there!
Leftover roasted vegetables make the perfect side dish or even the perfect roasted vegetable salad.
