If you’re looking for easy healthy dinner recipes your family will actually eat, these are the meals I make on repeat. From 20-minute dinners and sheet pan meals to pasta, rice bowls, and slow cooker recipes, you’ll find them all here!

Family-Favorite Healthy Dinners
These are the healthy dinners I come back to when I want everyone to eat the same meal without complaints. You’ll find familiar favorites like pizza, chicken nuggets, bowls, and tacos made with simple ingredients and plenty of room to customize.

Quick Healthy Dinner Ideas
When dinner needs to happen fast, these are the recipes I reach for. Most are on the table in 10 to 30 minutes without relying on takeout.

Healthy Sheet Pan Dinner Ideas
Sheet pan dinners are what I make when I want the oven to do most of the work. Protein, vegetables, and often the whole meal cook together, which also means fewer dishes afterward. You can find even more sheet pan dinner recipes here.

Healthy Pasta Recipes
Pasta is one of the easiest dinners to get everyone to the table for, so I don’t take it off the menu just because I’m trying to make a balanced meal. These recipes add protein, vegetables, or both without turning pasta night into something the kids don’t recognize.

Healthy Dinners with Rice
Rice bowls and skillet meals are easy to customize around what I already have in the fridge. Use the rice your family eats-white, brown, or cauliflower rice-then add the protein, vegetables, and toppings that work for everyone.

Healthy Slow Cooker Recipes
These are the dinners I start earlier in the day so I don’t have to think about cooking at 5 p.m. From hearty soups to tacos, the slow cooker handles most of the work and dinner is ready when we are.

What Healthy Eating Looks Like in My Kitchen
I used to call this “clean eating,” and you’ll still see that phrase in some of my older recipes. For me, it has always meant cooking more meals with whole or minimally processed ingredients, not following a perfect list of foods you can and can’t eat.
Most of our dinners include some combination of vegetables or fruit, protein, grains or potatoes, and fats that make the meal satisfying. We also eat dairy, pasta, rice, bread, and plenty of other foods that fit real life.
The goal isn’t to make dinner “clean.” It’s to make a meal that feels good to serve and that everyone will actually eat.
Whole Food Dinner Ideas Don’t Have to Be Complicated
A whole-food dinner doesn’t need to be a giant salad or a plate of plain chicken and vegetables. Some of the meals we eat most often are tacos, rice bowls, pasta, chili, and sheet pan dinners made with simple ingredients I can buy at a regular grocery store.
That’s also why I don’t make separate “healthy food” for myself anymore. I start with foods my family already likes and build a balanced meal around them.
Healthy Eating Meal Plan for Families
Making healthy dinners is one thing; figuring out what to make every night is another. I created a 30-day meal plan to help families transition into healthy eating called the Family Kickstart Program.
It includes four weeks of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners plus shopping lists and prep guides, with familiar meals like pancakes, pizza chicken, burrito bowls, and skillet dinners. See the Family KickStart meal plan.
Healthy Dinner Ideas

Watch how it’s made:
Ingredients
For the chicken & marinade:
- ½ can 7-ounce can Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, about 3 peppers
- 2 cloves of garlic, or 1 teaspoon powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 ½ lbs chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
For the bowls:
- 1 cup long-grain rice
- 1 lime, zested & juiced
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- 1 head romaine lettuce, chopped into shreds
- 15 ounce can of black beans, rinsed & drained
- 15 ounce can of corn, rinsed and drained
- Pico de Gallo, or salsa, guacamole and sour cream, for topping
Instructions
Marinate the chicken:
- Place half of the chipotle peppers, some juice from the can, garlic, salt, and lime juice in the blender. Blend until smooth. Place the chicken breasts in a bowl, pour the marinade over them, and toss to coat. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
Cook:
- Cook the rice according to the package directions (usually 1 cup rice + 2 cups water), removing 2 tablespoons of water and adding the juice from 1 lime and the zest. Removing a little water to account for the added lime juice helps keep your rice from turning soggy. Once the rice is done, remove the lid, fluff it to let the steam evaporate, add the chopped cilantro to the pot, and toss to mix it into the rice.
- Meanwhile, cook the chicken and discard the marinade. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat, grease it with a little oil, and cook the chicken for about 7 minutes, flipping them to sear all sides. I usually do this in two batches, so the chicken sears instead of steaming, which happens when you cook too much at once. When the first batch is done, I transfer the cooked chicken onto a plate and cover it to keep it warm while I cook the next batch.
Assemble:
- Chop all the toppings and have them ready, assembly-line style, for when the chicken and rice are cooked. Warm up the corn and black beans, and set them aside.
- Build a bowl with a base of cilantro lime rice, topped with cooked chipotle chicken, lettuce, black beans, corn, Pico de Gallo, guacamole, and sour cream.
